Another reason I love words.

In the depths of the darkness that can consume us, I believe we must put our thoughts into words.  We need to tell our stories because in doing so we are no longer held captive to the darkness.  We learn that we are not alone.  We see light and experience hope.

I believe that words bring light to dark places.  That words transform our stories.  I believe we need to create and find spaces where people can speak their stories and experience the transforming light that comes from doing so.

John 1 says: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…In him was life, and the life was the light of men.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

As we feel trapped or stuck or alone, as we feel consumed by darkness, we need to let our words (and the Word) shine light there.

Words carry more power than I think we know what to do with.
