Ideas, Music, Questions

One of my most recent posts (sadly it was way back in December) was about my exploration in being fully known and fully loved.  I’ve been sitting in this concept for several months and firmly believe that being alive presupposes the need to be known and loved.

Over the last couple months, I’ve been experiencing and exploring what I think is another universal: hurt.  I think being alive also presupposes our capacity to hurt, both in the passive and active forms of the word.

We can’t help but hurt others and we can’t help being hurt by others – it’s universally true of being human.  No matter your intentions or your heart, hurt is inevitable.  Similarly to Fully Known & Fully Loved, I’m in the midst of capturing HURT in a mixed tape format (more to come on that soon).

A thought I’m pondering in the meantime: what are other universals?  What else comes with being human?  No matter who you are, where you are, or when you are.  Known. Loved. Hurt.  Any suggestions to add to the list?

And finally, as a teaser to the release of the HURT mixed tape, here are two songs by two of my favorite artists that are making me feel especially known right now: “Rain” by Patty Griffin and “Are We Really Through” by Ray Lamontagne.

  1. To love and be love is the most powerful emotion I know. When you love, you are also bound to hurt. I am so sorry, you are hurting. Please know that I am here for you, praying for you. I, (we ), love you, Sam!
