My only job in life right now is to learn. To sit in classrooms and books and thoughts and papers and conversations and to try and claim as much knowledge as I can: about life, about God, about myself, about the world. If you’re thinking that sounds pretty awesome, I agree! I hope that no matter how old you are or what your life looks like, you create spaces in your life to learn – today, tomorrow, as a full-time student for just a season, or as a daily hobby.
I spent the previous 4ish years working for Young Life in Chicagoland. Who I am, where I am, and who I want to be are all directly related to the people, experiences, and opportunities Young Life brought into my life.
When people used to ask me what I would do if I didn’t work for Young Life, my answer was (in no particular order): “Go to culinary school, work in a coffee shop, finish my seminary degree, or one day (fingers crossed!) open a coffee shop of my own. I also think I would like to teach and perhaps write a book…but we’ll see.” (That’s a direct quote from what this page of my blog used to say.)
Well, currently, I am finishing my seminary degree and I do lots of work in coffee shops. I’m not in culinary school but my apartment operates as a fully functioning test kitchen and I’m starting some serious brainstorming and drafting for a book I hope to write. Time to work on a new bucket list…
I want to open a coffee shop! Perhaps a joint venture?
